TORORO, UGANDA,Musicians and other creatives in Tororo are set to benefit from a Copyright Management System Awareness Training organized by the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) at Myst Lounge.
The engagement is aimed at increasing awareness among artists about copyright registration, management and protection, while equipping creatives with practical knowledge on how to safeguard their intellectual property and derive economic value from their creative works.
The training is expected to provide participants with a better understanding of copyright and related rights, including the importance of properly registering and managing creative works to protect them from unauthorized use and exploitation.
Through the Copyright Management System, musicians and other rights holders will also be encouraged to take a more active role in managing their intellectual property and understanding the processes involved in protecting their works.
The initiative comes as Uganda's creative sector continues to expand, creating growing opportunities for musicians, performers, producers, songwriters and other creatives. However, concerns over copyright infringement, unauthorized use of creative works and limited awareness of intellectual property rights remain significant challenges for many artists.
UNMF's awareness drive is therefore expected to strengthen the capacity of creatives to understand their rights and the mechanisms available to them for protecting and benefiting from their artistic output.
The Tororo engagement aimed at bring together musicians and other stakeholders in the creative industry, providing an opportunity for participants to learn, ask questions and engage on issues affecting copyright management.
Organizers are encouraged creatives to use the training as an opportunity to gain practical knowledge that can help them protect their works, manage their rights and build sustainable income streams from their creativity.
The training forms part of broader efforts to improve copyright awareness among Uganda's creative community and promote a culture in which artists understand and actively protect the value of their intellectual property.
